  • Engaging youth in the World and National Meteor...

Encouraging young people to learn more about the weather and climate system and to contribute to action on climate change, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) celebrates this year’s World and National Meteorological Day (WMND) focusing on the youth with the theme “Weather and Climate: Engaging Youth”.

As member of the WMO, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has lined-up different activities for the WMND celebration on 21 March 2014. To create awareness and encourage active participation from the youth, DOST-PAGASA included the following activities:

    •  Youth Scientific Forum - Open to high school and college students, this forum will discuss the basics of meteorology, climate and warning systems. (Participation is free but pre-registration is required on a first-come first-serve basis)
    •  Junior Weather Broadcasting Competition - Open to 3rd and 4th year college students, this contest will showcase the reporting skills of the students by delivering the latest weather update.
    •  Weather Observation Challenge – Open to 3rd and 4th year high school students, this contest will orient the students about the scientific observation of weather parameters.
