CliMap v2.0
OVERVIEW

The CliMap, or the Climate Information Map is an online platform featuring an interactive map where users can explore and download the available climate data over the desired area anywhere in the Philippines. It was conceptualized and developed through the DOST-funded project: Development of high-resolution observation-based gridded sub-daily climate data for the Philippines (ClimGridPh), which was a component of the DOST-PAGASA’s program, Scaling Up Climate Information Services for Societal Benefits (CLIM’ UP) monitored by the DOST-PCIEERD from 01 March 2021 to 29 February 2024. CliMap will primarily serve the public in providing the historical daily and sub-daily gridded dataset of surface climate variables, which are the main outputs of the project. Currently, these datasets include rainfall and temperature (maximum, minimum, and mean) at daily timescale.

THE CLIMATE MAP INTERFACE

The Climate Map Interface of the CliMap showcases a clickable basemap of monthly historical and climate projection data. Clicking on any point on the map will reveal climate information of its municipality, province, and region. To switch between the type of data shown, simply click the desired dataset on the left side of the map interface.

The left panel provides users with the option to choose a specific climate variable and month. For the historical data, there is an additional option to view the rainfall extremes while the CMIP6 tab offers menus for specific emission scenarios (Shared Socio-economic Pathways), desired time period, and range.

While the maps provide an immediate visualization of the historical and projected changes in climate, raw files are also made available for download from this online portal. The platform allows users to download maps of the annual average variables, historical monthly mean in a spreadsheet file, and monthly time series plots in the regional, provincial, or municipality-level from the historical data. The CMIP6-based Climate Information Risk Analysis Matrix (or CLIRAM) can also be downloaded from the climate projection data. To do so, just CLICK on the map over the location of the desired municipality and select the needed information. Upon hitting the download button, the user will be redirected to an online registration form and upon entering the required information and agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, as well as to the Privacy Policy, the download links will be sent to the registered email address of the user. Please note that the download link will expire upon successfully downloading the file, so users are advised to save them securely for their future use. The raw gridded files will be made available for advanced users at a later time.
