“GORIO” SLIGHTLY INTENSIFIES AS IT MOVES WESTWARD OVER THE PAST SIX HOURS.
- HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS
- Heavy Rainfall Outlook
- Refer to Weather Advisory No. 3 issued at 11:00 PM today for the heavy rainfall outlook due to TC GORIO.
- Severe Winds
- The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.
- Minor to moderate impacts from gale-force winds are possible within any of the localities where Wind Signal No. 2 is hoisted.
- Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are also possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
- Should there be a southward shift in the track forecast and changes in radius, the expansion of areas under Wind Signals is possible.
- The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
- Today: Babuyan Islands and the northern portion of mainland Cagayan.
- Tomorrow (13 August): Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of mainland Cagayan, the eastern portion of Isabela, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte.
- Coastal Inundation
- While no storm surge warning is hoisted, there may be an increased potential for coastal flooding due to high waves near the coast, especially if the track forecast shifts further south.
- HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
- A Gale Warning is in effect over the seaboard of Extreme Northern Luzon. Refer to Gale Warning No. 1 issued at 5:00 PM today.
- 24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook
- Up to very rough seas over the following coastal waters:
- Up to 9.0 m: The seaboards of Batanes
- Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.
- Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
- Up to 3.5 m: The northern and eastern seaboards of Babuyan Islands
- Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels.
- Up to moderate seas over the following coastal waters:
- Up to 2.5 m: The remaining seaboards of Babuyan Islands; the northeastern seaboard of mainland Cagayan
- Up to 2.0 m: The remaining seaboards of mainland Cagayan; the seaboard of Isabela; the northeastern seaboard of Aurora
- Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
- TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
- GORIO is forecast to move west northwestward for the entirety of the forecast period. On the track forecast, GORIO may make landfall over the eastern coast of southern Taiwan tomorrow (13 August) morning or afternoon and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by tomorrow afternoon or evening.
- GORIO is forecast to intensify prior to its landfall to Taiwan before weakening throughout the remainder of the forecast period.
