In observance of the Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week, the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) lined-up significant activities to celebrate the event.

With this year’s theme “Kahandaan sa Bagyo at Baha, Solusyon sa Ligtas na Bayan”, the Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week, observed every third week of June, was declared under Presidential Proclamation No. 1535, Series of 2008, to raise awareness and promote proactive measures in addressing typhoon- and flood-related hazards.

To kick-off the TFAW celebration, DOST-PAGASA re-launches key enhancements to the National Hydro-Met Observing Network (PANaHON) interactive platform.

The upgraded PANaHON now features gridded forecast integration, providing at any location, offering improved spatial accuracy for rainfall accumulation, temperature, wind, and pressure. Users can access the interactive map through its clickable grid points, a time-slider, and location-based search functions.

Additionally, all regional warnings are now consolidated into a centralized alert system, displayed through interactive, color-coded markers with complete hazard information. This unified interface simplifies access to critical weather advisories.

These upgrades aim to improve public access to accurate weather information and support local planning, risk reduction, and disaster preparedness efforts nationwide.

Other key activities of the TFAW celebration are the MAAGAP Seminar and Consultative Meeting with Sorsogon Disaster Managers and Stakeholders to be held in Sorsogon City, and the Media Seminar-Workshop in PAGASA Central Office.

For more details about the TFAW celebration, please contact the Media Affairs Unit of the Climatology & Agrometeorology Research and Development Section (CARDS) at telephone numbers 8925-6943 or 8284-0800 local 818/907/908, or follow DOST-PAGASA on its official social media channels.
