DOST-PAGASA showcases innovations at the 1st rSCENE in Catbalogan City
Highlighting technology and innovations in weather and climate monitoring, DOST-PAGASA participated in the 1st Regional Smart Communities Exposition and Networking Engagement (rSCENE), held in Catbalogan City, Samar, from June 16 to 18, 2025, with the theme “Kauswagan: Harnessing Technology Towards Sustainable Development.”
Present during the opening were DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr., Undersecretary for Regional Operations Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, Regional Director of DOST Region VIII Dr. John Glenn Ocana, along with local government officials and leaders from Samar and the region.
The three-day event, led by the Catbalogan City LGU in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and other government agencies, featured activities such as hackathons, idea and reverse pitching sessions, tech talks, e-sports competitions, innovative project showcases, and exhibits.
DOST-PAGASA showcased its automatic weather station, upper-air observation, and interactive display, emphasizing the role of technology in building smart and sustainable cities. The team also resented CLIMAP V2.0 during the innovative session with other DOST-attached agencies. This online platform has been instrumental in empowering climate action through the provision of high-resolution data and in supporting local government units and stakeholders in making informed decisions, plans, and actions across the country.
