DOST-PAGASA Leads Nationwide Observance of Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week (TFAW)
In observance of Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week (TFAW), DOST-PAGASA conducted a series of nationwide activities aimed at educating and preparing the public for natural hazards. These events align with Proclamation No. 1535, series of 2008, which declares the third week of June as TFAW and mandates the agency to promote public awareness through scientific knowledge.
From June 15 to 21, 2025, DOST-PAGASA spearheaded several IEC activities attended by local officials, disaster risk reduction officers, educators, media, and members of the public.
𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗮𝗛𝗢𝗡
During the opening on June 16, 2025, a press conference was held to kick off the observance of TFAW. The event was attended by media practitioners and other stakeholders, featuring the latest announcements on climate and weather, the launch of TFAW activities, and the introduction of innovations.
One of the key highlights of the event was the launch of the improved PAGASA National Hydro-Met Observing Network, or PANaHON, which features an interactive map with clickable grid points, a time-slider, and location-based search functions. In addition, the platform provides regional warnings through a centralized alert system with color-coding and interactive features useful for local planning and preparedness efforts.
𝗧𝗙𝗔𝗪 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗴𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗴𝗼𝗻
In partnership with the Provincial Government of Sorsogon and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Sorsogon, several activities were held to raise awareness about typhoons, floods, and related hazards among the public.
The Maagang Aksyon at Akmang Gawin Ayon sa Panahon or MAAGAP Seminar was conducted on June 18, 2025, for disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) officers and other stakeholders in the province. Discussions on meteorological hazards, warning systems, and the region's climate were also conducted, along with a consultation session.
The Seminar on Basic Meteorology for Teachers was held on June 19, 2025, in partnership with the Schools Division Office of Sorsogon to equip teachers with essential knowledge. Topics such as heat index, rainfall, and tropical cyclones, which directly affect classrooms, were discussed, along with broader discussions on climate.
On the same day, a flood drill activity was led by the local leaders in Barangay Buhatan, Sorsogon City, with participation from the City DRRMO, barangay officials, residents, and other observing disaster risk reduction offices.

DOST-PAGASA conducted a seminar for media practitioners in the National Capital Region on June 20, 2025 at the PAGASA Amihan Conference Room to enrich their knowledge in reporting about weather and climate. The event was attended by major TV, radio, and media networks, which are partners of the agency in raising awareness about weather conditions.
